Armed Training

Weapon defense and weapons training for real-world self-protection.

Two martial arts practitioners training with wooden rattan sticks at CAMA

The armed training component of Seizan Ryu draws heavily from Filipino martial arts — Escrima and Arnis — incorporating weapon defense and weapons training for real-world self-protection. Students learn to defend against weapons and to use traditional implements effectively in self-defense scenarios.

This training is integral to the Seizan Ryu system, which recognizes that real-world self-defense situations may involve weapons. Rather than ignoring this reality, CAMA prepares students to handle such situations with competence and confidence. Training covers knife defense, stick fighting with rattan sticks, and the principles of armed combat that translate across all weapon types.

Armed training is one of the unique differentiators of Seizan Ryu. As one of our adult students noted: “I love the idea of being able to use this system with empty hands, sticks, or knives.” The versatility of the armed and unarmed curriculum means students develop a truly comprehensive self-defense capability.

Training Includes

  • Knife defense techniques and awareness
  • Rattan stick training (Filipino Escrima and Arnis traditions)
  • Weapon disarming and retention principles
  • Real-world scenario-based weapon defense
  • Integration of armed and unarmed techniques

Armed classes are included as part of the adult curriculum and are available during regular adult training sessions. The weapon techniques are taught progressively, building on the unarmed foundation that all students develop.
