THE CAMA METHOD
What It Is Not
Understanding what sets CAMA apart from sport martial arts, MMA, and tournament fighting.
An Important Distinction
There are many types of martial arts schools, and choosing the right one matters. CAMA teaches Seizan Ryu — a self-defense based fighting system designed exclusively for real-world personal protection. To help prospective students understand what to expect, it is important to be clear about what CAMA is not.
Not Sport Karate
CAMA does not train students for point-sparring, forms competitions, or sport karate tournaments. Sport martial arts operate under rules and restrictions that do not exist in real-world confrontations. Our training focuses on techniques that work without referees, weight classes, or prohibited targets.
Not Tournament Fighting
We do not prepare students for competition or tournament fighting of any kind. Tournaments reward strategies optimized for scoring points within a controlled environment. CAMA teaches strategies optimized for surviving and escaping real threats. These are fundamentally different objectives that require different training approaches.
Not MMA
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a sport with rules, rounds, and weight classes. While MMA practitioners are skilled athletes, MMA training is designed for one-on-one competition in a controlled cage or ring environment. CAMA trains students for unpredictable real-world scenarios where there are no rules, where multiple attackers may be involved, and where weapons may be present.
Not a Belt Factory
CAMA does not promote students based on time served or fees paid. Advancement is earned through demonstrated proficiency in the system. Our students earn their rank through dedication, skill development, and genuine mastery of the material.
What CAMA Is
A true teaching academy focused on realistic self-defense. A place where students develop not just physical skills, but the mental discipline, awareness, and confidence to handle whatever challenges life presents — using no more force than necessary.
