THE CAMA METHOD
What It Is
A self-defense system built for real-world protection — not sport, not competition.
Seizan Ryu: A Self-Defense Based Fighting System
Seizan Ryu is a comprehensive martial arts system focused entirely on self-defense. Every technique, strategy, and principle taught at CAMA is designed for effectiveness in real-world conditions and situations — to neutralize attacks, counter attack for self-protection, and escape safely.
The system derives from the careful blending of four distinct martial traditions: Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, and Indonesian martial arts. This trans-Pacific approach draws on age-old martial principles from each tradition, combining them with a Western system of codification and presentation that makes these arts accessible and practical for modern students.
For over forty years, CAMA instructors have used this unique approach to provide students with realistic and relevant personal protection. Drawing from technique and tactics inherent in the study of these four disciplines, and vetted by intuitive teachers who recognized the commonalities in these practices, the curriculum provides students with holistic skills that are both realistic and relevant.
What Makes Seizan Ryu Different
Real-World Focus
All techniques are trained for real-world conditions and situations. There are no rules, no points, no referees — only strategies that work when personal safety is on the line.
Self-Defense, Not Sport
Seizan Ryu exists for one purpose: personal protection. Training prepares students to neutralize threats and escape safely, not to compete or win trophies.
Four Martial Traditions
By drawing from Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, and Indonesian arts, students develop a comprehensive skill set — striking, grappling, weapons, and close-quarters defense.
Complete Development
The system prepares students physically as well as psychologically and emotionally for whatever challenges they may face in life — on and off the mat.
Armed and Unarmed Training
Seizan Ryu encompasses both unarmed and armed self-defense. Unarmed training covers the full spectrum of personal protection: strikes, joint locks, throws, takedowns, and ground defense. Armed training develops proficiency in weapon defense as well as the use of traditional weapons, including knife defense and stick techniques derived from Filipino martial arts.
This dual approach ensures that students are prepared for any scenario they may encounter, whether facing an unarmed aggressor or a weapon-bearing threat. The principle remains the same: use no more force than necessary, neutralize the threat, and escape safely.
